Gender equality has been identified by the UN and World Bank, as well as the EU and ASEAN, as a key aspect of sustainable development. Yet promises to improve gender equality have not always been fulfilled. The Gulf and EU-Asia Connectivity

On 15 October the EU Asia Centre and the Bussola Institute co-hosted a seminar focusing on the role of Gulf States in connectivity strategies linking Europe and Asia in the changing geopolitical situation. EU and Chinese officials, think tanks and academia were invited to provide their perspectives in two panels focusing on political and economic dimensions respectively.

On 14 October, the EU-Asia Centre welcomed a delegation of parliamentarians from Tibet for a roundtable discussion.

 

Ni Ma Ci Ren(Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Xizang Autonomous Region) presented the latest developments political and economic in Tibet, highlighting the provision of basic services to all people and the new protections for Tibet’s pristine natural environment.

From mid-June to early July, our Research Fellow Bart Broer attended the 2019 Shanghai class of the Visiting Program for Young Sinologists, organized by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). The programme invited around 35 young (aged 25-40) China experts from around the world – young diplomats, businesspeople, think tankers, journalists, Chinese teachers – to China for high-level engagement with Chinese officials in the culture and tourism sphere.
