Invitation 28 March: What Prospects for the Chinese Economy?

14 March 2019

Where is the Chinese economy headed?

The answer to this question will have profound implications for the EU and the rest of the world. There remains much uncertainty about US-China trade relations which also impact the EU. An economic slowdown will damage EU-China trade flows and EU growth. What are President Xi’s priorities for reform? How will possible changes impact the ‘Made in China 2025’ strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative? What is the nature of the debate within China? And how should the EU react to the various challenges from China?
A recent policy paper by the Commission proposed a tougher approach. Just before the next EU-China summit in early April, you are invited to a panel discussion on the above issues from 17:00 to 18:30 on Thursday 28 March at the Press Club, Rue Froissart 95, 1000 Brussels.
